Artist Statement

Lorna Bauer’s work is primarily based in photography and installation, but often it encompasses other media. The artist uses her work to question and explore – in a reflective way – the institution of photography. Her practice involves the deconstruction and reconstruction of forms including exploring the function of objects and its display. Her practice is equally engaged with visual strategies such as repetition and fragmentation. Bauer’s work considers the less visible aspects of making art, at times exploring the mechanisms of representation and mediation. Ultimately the artist realizes her artworks through studio experimentation, site research and trial and error.
