Artist Statement

Through photography, video and installation, Josée Pedneault explores the delicate construction of human and emotional ties that bind the people to the worls. Her ideas take roots from personal or observed experiences: attachment and detachment, transition phases and uprooting. Intimate and delicate images often hide a more dark and profound background, a nostalgia for what is inaccessible, a disillusionment towards lost hopes. Facing a contemplative and poetic imagination, and often consisting of a large amount of images, the artist’s works are presented as installations in gallery spaces or in situ. Travel, quest and the wandering state are central themes explored in her work, which is a reflection on human experience: desires, failures and utopias.
